Arline Hayes Chapman was born in Shanghai, China. Leaving China to escape WWII, she spent her childhood in NJ. She came to the Atlanta area as a flight attendant for a major airline, became a homemaker and mother and at age forty-six established a successful career in state government from which she is now retired. Her career in art has been one of constant interruptions. In her fifties while working in Atlanta, she began studying at night at The Atlanta College of Art. She has studied portraiture with California Portrait Artist, Valerie Stewart. She works primarily with oil and acrylic. She teaches classes in drawing and the basics of acrylic painting.
